Male and Female Coach of the Year

Who is eligible to receive this award

Any SSC coach who has demonstrated meaningful, long term involvement with a club, regional, branch, or national association as a coach as evidenced by the following achievements:

• Present a positive public image of coaching and the role of the coach;
• Demonstrate concern for the all–round development of the athlete – assist the athlete to balance sport, social, and educational needs, and develop, through sport, life skills such as confidence, self–discipline, and respect;
• Demonstrate commitment to coaching education;
• Full certification at Level 3;
• Contribute to the advancement of sport by conducting courses, presenting clinics, writing publications, sitting on committees, etc.;
• Demonstrate organizational and planning skills; and/or,
• Achievement of athlete/team performance

Who can nominate candidates for this award

Each branch of SSC, each National Training Centre (Calgary, Montreal and Sainte-Foy), and each of the High Performance Committee – Short Track and High Performance Committee – Long Track is entitled to submit One (1) name annually for the Male Coach of the Year and One (1) name annually for the Female Coach of the Year.  The achievements and qualifications of the coach will be listed on nomination forms provided by SSC.  All the coaching positions and coaching accomplishments, as well as examples of good coaching techniques should be listed.

How is the winner of this award chosen

The Coaching Committee of SSC will decide the winner of the award.

When is the award presented

The award will be presented at the Awards Banquet at the SSC Annual General Meeting.
