Gagné Family Award

This award was established by John V. Sands, former 1956 and 1960 Olympic Speed Skater.  The Gagné Family Award was first presented in 1996.

Who is eligible to receive this award

This award, which will not necessarily be granted every year, will be bestowed upon a family who has made an outstanding contribution to the development of the sport of speed skating in Canada.

Who can nominate families for this award

Any branch of SSC may submit a nomination for this award.  The achievements and qualifications of each member of the family nominated will be listed on the nomination forms provided by SSC. Nominations should cover, in detail, all the speed skating accomplishments of all the members of the family being nominated.

How is the winner of the award chosen

The Selection Committee will include:

  • President of SSC or his/her designated as Chairman of the Committee;
  • John V. Sands, or his designate, representing the donor; and,
  • The Branch President with the longest number of years as a SSC member

When is the award presented

The Gagné Family Award will be presented to the winning family at the Awards Banquet at the SSC Annual General Meeting.  The award will be a plaque, which will be kept at SSC office.  The winner will receive and keep a replica of the plaque.
