Jean Grenier Appreciation Award
This award was first established and presented in 1999 by the SSC Board of Directors. It is established in the name of Jean Grenier, a long time volunteer to speed skating in Canada and a Canadian representative in the International Skating Union (ISU).
Who is eligible to receive this award
Due to the prestige of this award it may not necessarily be presented every year.
This award is presented to an individual or individuals that has/have assisted the sport of speed skating in Canada in ways other than work done at clubs and branches. This would include but is not limited to volunteer work on organizing national and international competitions, clinics and meetings.
Who can nominate candidates for this award
Any branch may submit one (1) nomination for the Jean Grenier Appreciation Award each year. The achievements and qualifications of each nominee should be listed on the nomination forms provided by SSC. Nominations should cover, in detail, all the nominated volunteer’s accomplishments in speed skating.
How is the winner of this award chosen
SSC Board of Directors will decide who will win this award.
The main criteria will be the importance of the volunteer work for the advancement of speed skating in Canada and the number of years the volunteer has been involved.
When is this award presented
The Jean Grenier Appreciation Award will be presented at the Awards Banquet at the SSC Annual General Meeting. This award comes in the form of a glass sculpture of a speed skater with a “Jean Grenier Appreciation Award” engraved plaque indicating the year in which it was awarded.
