John Hurdis Award - Outstanding volunteer

This award was established by SSC in 1982 to underline the long and outstanding services rendered by John Hurdis of Toronto to the sport of speed skating.

Who is eligible to receive this award

The award, due to its prestige, will not necessarily be awarded every year. It will be bestowed upon volunteers who have made an outstanding contribution to the advancement of speed skating at the national level and/or international level.

Who can nominate candidates for this award

Any branch may submit one (1) nomination for the John Hurdis Award each year.  The achievements and qualifications of each nominee should be listed on the nomination forms provided by SSC.  Nominations should cover, in detail, all the accomplishments of the volunteer in speed skating.

How is the winner of this award chosen

SSC Board of Directors will decide who will win this award.

When is the award presented

The John Hurdis Award will be presented at the Awards Banquet at the SSC Annual General Meeting.  The winner will receive a “John Hurdis Award” engraved plaque indicating the year in which it was awarded and a framed picture.
