Personal Best

Personal Best Challenge

The Personal Challenge is easier than ever to participate in!!

Developed to encourage skaters and clubs to strive for personal best performances, the program challenges skaters to do their best and recognizes these efforts through a certificate program.

How does it work?

SHORT TRACK – Time #1 must be recorded at a race in the month of October. Those clubs that do not have ice until later in the season (northern Canada ), have until the middle of December to record their 1 st time. Time #2 must be recorded during a race in the month of February. Times should be taken from a 111.12m oval track, although the track does not have to be certified. The following distances are to be used for time recording:

        Intermediate 500m       Junior 500m
        Juvenile 500m             Midget 300m
        Bantam 200m             Pee Wee 200m
        Cradle 100m

Times for each skater is to be recorded using the excel spreadsheet entitled “SHORT TRACK”, which has already been formulized to automatically calculate the percentage increase of skaters. SSC office will NOT be responsible for data.

LONG TRACK – Time #1 must be recorded at a race in December/early January. Time #2 must be recorded during a race in late January/February. Times should be taken from a 333m or 400m oval track, although the track does not have to be certified. The following distances are to be used for time recording:

        Intermediate 500m        Junior 500m
        Juvenile 300m              Midget 300m
        Bantam 200m              Pee Wee 200m
        Cradle 100m

Times for each skater is to be recorded using the excel spreadsheet entitled “LONG TRACK”, which has already been formulized to automatically calculate the percentage increase of skaters. SSC office will NOT be responsible for data.

The following formula will be used to calculate the percentage improvement:

(Time 1 – Time 2) X 100%
Time 1

Should a skater fall, we encourage you to allow re-skates. To save time, the re-skates can be done by combining several age categories, since only the time really counts.

Certificates of improvement

Clubs must send all Best Challenge results to the Speed Skating Canada office no later than March 30 th . SSC will send Best Challenge certificates to each club.
