CLUB AND MEMBERSHIP
SEED Lite
The SEED Lite Lottery Program
Background
In early 2006, at the request of the Club & Membership Development Committee (CMDC), the SSC Board approved the division of one full $16,000 SEED package into four smaller “SEED Lite Lottery” packages, each worth $4,000.
Eligibility
Through their Branches, all clubs that have not previously received a SEED package or a SEED Lite Lottery grant are eligible to take part in the Lite SEED program.
Purpose
The SEED Lite Lottery grants are intended to provide all clubs with an easy opportunity to get some significant funding for crash pads and/or replacement crash pads, regardless of the age of the club.
Award Recipient Selection
The prizes will be awarded and announced at the SSC AGM each year. The recipients of the five grants will be chosen through a random draw at the AGM, in front of the attending audience. Every Branch will get to enter 3 draw tickets, and any Branch with more than 500 members will get an extra draw ticket for every additional 500 members that it has. Therefore, for 2009, the Branches will have the following number of draw tickets:
Alberta
3
British Columbia
5
Manitoba
3
Newfoundland & Labrador
3
New Brunswick
3
Northwest Territories
3
Nova Scotia
3
Nunavut
3
Ontario
5
Prince Edward Island
3
Québec
11
Saskatchewan
3
Yukon
3
Each draw ticket must have a club name on it before it goes into the draw. Branches are free to choose how they determine which club names go on which of their tickets. Selection criteria used by different Branches will include:
i) a random draw among eligible clubs within the Branch,
ii) clubs most in need of crash pads,
iii) a random draw among those eligible clubs that attend the Branch AGM, or
iv) the selection of one club that is then put on all of the Branch draw tickets.
Official Entries
The Branch President and/or Executive Director of a Branch must send their Branch’s club entries by June 5, 2009, to dcurrie@speedskating.ca for the 2009 SSC AGM draw.
Payment of Awards
Winning clubs will be sent a cheque for $4,000 once they provide proof of purchase of crash pads totalling at least $4,000. The date of purchase must be after June 30th of the year in which the award is made. Additionally, receipts of proof of purchase of the mats must be submitted to Dawn Currie no later than October 31st of the year in which the grant is awarded. If this is not done, the Club & Membership Development Committee has the right to re-allocate the grant to another club. As well, pads purchased under the Lite SEED program will be treated the same way as regular SEED pads i.e. they are the property of the club’s Branch, and can be reclaimed if/when the club fails.
