About the Canadian Open Short Track Championships
The Canadian Open Short Track Championships are held annually and determine the Canadian champion in individual distances and an overall classification. The championships are the single most important competition in determining which athletes will be selected to represent Canada at the world championships.
The Canadian Open Short Track Championships account for 55 percent of the points for the yearly Canadian senior rankings. The competition is held over three days with the 500 m, 1000 m, 1500 m and 3000 m distances being raced individually, as well as a demonstration relay for both women and men.
The top skater at the Canadian Open Short Track Championships is based on their cumulative total after racing the 500 m, 1000 m, 1500 m and 3000 m.
