Statuses & Gradations

As a coach completes training and evaluation activities they are granted a certification status. Once a coach has achieved a certified status, they will be able to pursue further training and evaluation activities to achieve gradations recognising additional depth and/or breadth of skills and/or knowledge.

Speed Skating Canada recognises the following statuses in each context:

In-training

The coach has begun training within a specific stream and context, having completed at least one training activity within a specific stream and context.

Trained

The coach has completed all training activities designated for a specific stream and context.

Certified

The coach has demonstrated all of the outcomes required for certification to an accredited evaluator for a specific stream and context.

Advanced*

The coach is certified within a specific stream and context and demonstrates coaching abilities and knowledge beyond the certification requirements and is involved in the continuing education of other coaches by way of mentorship, course facilitation or evaluation. Depending on the stream and context the coach may have to complete additional training activities to achieve this gradation and/or acquire specific experiences.

Master*

The coach is recognised with an advanced gradation within a specific stream and context and is actively involved in the training and evaluation of coaches within that stream and context or is considered at the cutting edge of the sport by conducting research or producing models which serve for the development of the sport. Depending on the stream and context the coach may have to complete additional training activities to achieve this gradation and/or acquire specific experiences.
