National Competitions

About the Short Track National Team Selections

The Short Track National Team Selections are the last annual competitions that complete the Canadian senior rankings. The Canadian senior rankings include all athletes that participated in the Canadian Open Championships and/or National Team Selections and are utilized to confirm athletes to the national and development teams for the following season.

The distances are the same as the Canadian Open Championship, being the 500 m, 1000 m, 1500 m, 3000 m and a demonstration relay for both women and men. The top 24 skaters from the overall results of the Canadian Open Championships, excluding the five athletes selected to represent Canada at the world championships, are automatically eligible to compete in National Team Selections.
