A great finish to the Conematic Heating Short Track Invitational

The Conematic Heating Short Track Invitational wrapped up today at the Olympic Oval with the 1000m and 3000m races. There were plenty of thrills and spills as many of the world’s top skaters warmed up for the Conematic Heating ISU World Cup Short Track, held October 17, 18 & 19 at the Olympic Oval.

The first heat of the day brought the fastest times for the women’s 1000m event. China’s Tianyu Fu skated the fastest 1000m with a time of 1:33.382. Canadian National Development Team member Anouk Leblanc-Boucher finished with the second fastest time of the day (1:33.457), followed by US National Team skater Caroline Hallisey (1:33.583).

In the men’s 1000m, US National Team and Oval Program skater Shani Davis was the fastest with a time of 1:26.826. Three-time Olympic medallist Jiajun Li (CHN) skated the second fastest today in a time of 1:27.269. Canadian National Development Team member Olivier Jean finished with the third fastest time (1:27.344).

In the women’s 3000m races, Wei Wang (CHN) finished in a time of 5:16.348, followed by teammate Mile Zhu (5:16.645). Canadian National Team skater Amelie Goulet-Nadon, who was selected as Speed Skating Canada’s 2003 Female Athlete of the Year in Short Track, was the third fastest with a time of 5:17.068. Canadian Raphaele Lemieux finished with the fourth fastest time just behind Goulet-Nadon.

Canadian National Team member Jonathan Guilmette finished the 3000m in the fastest time with a 4:53.396. Quebec athlete Marc-Andre Monette was the second fastest (4:54.105), followed by fellow Quebec skater Mathieu LeFrancois-Gauvreau (4:54.846).
