Canada East Short Track Championships 2014

Approximately 125 athletes aged 11 to 15 competed in the Canada East Short Track Championships in Rivière-du-Loup at the Centre Premier Tech this past weekend (March 29 to 30).

“At this meet I enjoyed competing with skaters from other provinces I didn’t know. This meet was a great experience for practicing technique for races because of the great competitors. There was excellent organisation within the competition witch overall made a memorable experience.”

Kate Miyasaki, Ontario, girls 14

“During my 8 years speed skating, it has been a goal of mine to skate at a national competition. Competing here in Rivière-du-Loup has been a great experience that surpassed my expectations. This was a good way to see how Ontario matched up to the rest of Canada.”

Taylor Simpson, Ontario, boys 15

“Team New Brunswick has found Canada Est 2014 to be an exciting and motivating experience. They enjoyed the opportunity to race with and to know skaters from other provinces. Québec is a “blue wave” of impressive athletes, which makes us appreciate and treasure the few medals won by our New Brunswick skaters. The high level of competition enables the skaters to see how they rate this year, and set future training and performance goals.

Thank you to Rivière-du-Loup club for hosting the championships. Team New Brunswick looks forward to welcoming everyone to Fredericton for next year’s Canada Est Short Track Championship.”
