Canadian Official Mike Makowsky added to ISU Championship List

Speed Skating Canada is pleased to announce Mike Makowsky from Regina, Saskatchewan has been upgraded to a Level V Starter by the ISU and added to the Championship List. A starter for the last sixteen years, he acknowledges the support received by his mentors, most notably Eugene Hearne, Hans Terstappen, Yves Belanger and Guy Marcoux. A believer in the education and development of officials, one of Mikes greatest accomplishments was working with Jim McClements on developing the "Clearing Path: Planning for Speed Skating Canada Officials Development" in 2005. Mike believes that the opportunity to participate as a parent, official and volunteer with people in all walks of life and from many communities in Canada has been the highlight of his involvement in speed skating.

Other officials upgraded by the ISU to Level IV in their respective officiating discipline include:

Lanyin Osborne - Competition Steward, Level IV
Rocky Lamontagne - ST Starter, Level IV
Roger Cole - ST Starter, Level IV
Gilles Ferragne, ST Referee, Level IV
Rick Hunt, LT Referee, Level IV

SSC wishes to congratulate Mike Makowsky on this major achievement. Mike joins two fellow Canadians on the ISU Starters List for long track speed skating: Hans Terstappen and Yves Belanger. Additionally, SSC wishes to congratulate Lanyin Osborne, Rocky Lamontagne, Roger Cole, Gilles Ferragne and Rick Hunt on their nomination to the International List.
