Canadian Open Short Track Championship changes venue to Saguenay, Que.

OTTAWA (Friday, Nov. 25, 2011) – Speed Skating Canada (SSC) announced today that the 2012 Canadian Open Short Track Speed Skating Championship will now be held at the Georges-Vézina Centre in Saguenay, Que., and a week earlier from Friday, Jan. 13 to Sunday, Jan. 15.

The championship was scheduled for Montreal’s Maurice-Richard Arena from Jan. 20 to 22. Because of circumstances at the arena outside of its control, SSC determined it best for all competitors that the championship be confirmed, as early as possible, at a set venue and earlier date.

The event also serves as the national team’s selection competition for the final World Cups in Moscow and Heerenveen, Netherlands, and the 2012 World Championship in Beijing.

The Georges-Vézina Centre in Saguenay will be available for training sessions staring Tuesday, Jan. 10.

SSC is grateful to the City of Saguenay, the Quebec Speed Skating Federation and championship organizing committee for continuing to make the Canadian Championship a success for the athletes and fans.
