Cros steps down as national women’s coach

National short track women’s coach, Sébastien Cros, steps down

MONTREAL
– SSC announced today that Sébastien Cros is stepping down as national short track women’s coach after five years in the position. He leaves and will join the Russian national short track team as it prepares for the 2014 Olympics in Sochi.

Cros, 36, came to SSC in 2007 after competing and coaching for his home country, France. He helped guide Canada’s women’s team to the 2010 Olympics in Vancouver, winning silver medals in the relay and the 500 metres.

“We thank Sébastien for his contributions to speed skating in Canada for the last five years, and especially the women’s national team in preparation for the 2010 Vancouver Games,” said Yves Hamelin, short track program director. “We’re disappointed to be losing him to the benefit of the host country for the next Winter Olympics, but we wish him all the best.”

SSC will begin immediately with a search and hiring process to replace Cros and continue the pursuit of excellence for the program, the team and speed skating in Canada.
