In Memoriam

It is with great sadness that I have to report that Lawrence (Larry) Mason from Calgary passed away at age 69, on August 12, 2004.

Larry competed for Canada at the Olympic Winter Games of 1960 in Squaw Valley and was a founding member of the Calgary Speed Skating Club. He was also a promoter of the metric or Olympic style speed skating, before it was widely accepted in Canada.

After his own skating career he spent a great deal of his time organizing and coaching sports in Calgary, not only in speed skating, but also in cycling, as president of the Alberta Bicycle Association. Many athletes were fortunate enough to have Larry as their coach in either one or both sport.

Larry's dedication, wisdom, humour and spirit will be missed.

Respectfully submitted by Arno Hoogveld, National Team Coach.
