Speed Skating Canada’s Intact Insurance Day on Skates a success in Montreal

MONTREAL – The first Speed Skating Canada Intact Insurance Day on Skates, presented in cooperation with local speed skating clubs, was successfully held this weekend at the Intact skating rink at Jean Drapeau Park during Montreal’s annual Fête des neiges winter festival.

The event was popular with more than 200 young and old enthusiasts, taking the opportunity to try speed skating, which included free clinics and skate rentals. Many more spectators gathered around the rink to watch and cheer for short track team members during demonstrations and friendly races.

Canadian short track team members Guillaume Blais-Dufour, Sabrina Bourgela, Gabriel Chiasson-Poirier, Andréa-Anh Do-Duc and Pier-Olivier Gagnon were on hand for clinics and to meet speed skating fans.

The Intact Insurance Day on Skates is an opportunity for Canadians to get involved and learn more about Canada’s oldest nationally organized sport – speed skating. In its inaugural year, Intact Insurance Day on Skates will take place as well in Toronto on Feb. 11 and 12, and will expand across Canada in the coming years.

SSC’s Intact Insurance Day on Skates is a two-day free event from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
