Job opening: Coordinator, Programs & Mentoring / Regional Development Mentor

The Fédération de patinage de vitesse du Québec (FPVQ) is a not-for-profit organization with 5,800 members dedicated to the development, promotion and management of speed skating in Quebec. Its head office is located in the Anneau de Glace Gaétan Boucher in Quebec City.

Speed Skating Canada is the national governing body responsible for the advancement and growth of speed skating in Canada. Its core purpose is to support high performance excellence at the international level and provide leadership in developmental programs. With 140 skating clubs in 13 provinces & territories, Speed Skating Canada is dedicated to providing skating programs for every skill level in Canada.

General description of the position
Under the direction of the FPVQ Director General, the Coordinator, Programs and Mentoring / Regional Development Mentor will develop and fully abide by the vision and plans of the FPVQ and SSC in terms of sport development of athletes and participants. The incumbent will work with coaches and sport stakeholders to help enhance understanding and implement the principles of long-term speed skating development, namely at the technical level and in general programming.

Requirements

  • • Level 3 NCCP Certification or equivalent
  • A university degree in kinesiology, sports intervention, physical education and/or a related field or equivalent
  • Strong understanding of the principles of the Long Term Participant and Athlete Development (LTPAD) Model
  • Demonstrated knowledge of speed skating and the various aspects of the sport
  • Qualification as a learning facilitator for the National Coaching Certification Program (NCCP) (multi-sport and/or speed skating);
  • Keen sense of leadership, initiative, communication and organization
  • Team player
  • Fluently Bilingual
  • Available evenings and weekends (where required)

This is a full-time position for a period of one year, with a perspective of long term employment and possibility of renewal. Employment will begin in August 2011. Pay and benefits will be based on FPVQ standards and may vary according to the experience and qualifications of the successful candidate.
