Job Description:

Speed Skating Canada (SSC) is the National Sport Organization for Speed Skating in Canada.

The Director of Sport (DOS) is a newly created full-time position that replaces the former High Performance Director position. As a result of the strategic decisions to create National Team Program Director positions for both short track and long track the DOS has an expanded role and will oversee all of Speed Skating Canada’s athlete development programs. The DOS will also oversee the Sport Development aspects to our national operations. This will create a truly seamless and integrated athlete development pathway for all speed skating members and ensure that Canada remains the #1 speed skating nation well beyond 2010.

Key responsibilities of this position include:

• Oversee the ongoing refinement and implementation of the SSC Strategic Plan, including the articulation of multi-year and annual High Performance and Sport Development Program Plans to achieve the established Performance Objectives.

• Represent Speed Skating Canada in all OTP matters.

• Represent Speed Skating Canada in all COC matters relating to athlete development.

• Together with program partners in Calgary, Montreal and Quebec ensure that all necessary arrangements, contracts and negotiations are in place so that the national team programs are provided with “world’s best practice” support services.

The ideal candidate must have knowledge of the amateur sporting system of Canada and of the programs of SSC’s key sports partners. The ideal candidate will have a clear vision of what is required to be successful as a National Sporting Organization and the ability to make it happen.

The ideal candidate will also have excellent management, administrative, and financial skills. Strong consultative, facilitation and decision-making skills are required. This individual will possess vision, energy, enthusiasm and the desire to be both a team builder and team player. Bilingualism is an asset.
