“Speed Skating Canada” - The most successful winter sport in Canada is seeking applications for the position of National Team Program Director, Long Track.


Job Description:

Speed Skating Canada (SSC) is the National Sport Organization for Speed Skating in Canada.

The National Team Program Director (NTPD), Long Track is a new full-time position encompassing responsibilities for the on site management and leadership of Speed Skating Canada’s National Team and Development Team programs that operate out of the Olympic Oval in Calgary, Alberta. The NTPD will be responsible for implementing SSC’s strategic plan for success in long track speed skating at the 2010 Winter Olympic Games. Canada was successful in winning 8 medals at the 2006 Torino Winter Olympics and the target for the 2010 Winter Olympic Games is higher. The NTPD will play a critical role in ensuring that these higher goals are achieved.

The Long Track programs at the Olympic Oval are delivered in partnership with the Olympic Oval and the NTPD will work closely with senior management at the Olympic Oval, University of Calgary and Canadian Sports Centre to ensure that all necessary resources are delivered to the SSC National and Development Team programs.


Key responsibilities of this position include:

• In association with the SSC Director of Sport, develop and shape the SSC Strategic Plan, including the articulation of multi-year and annual High Performance Program Plans to achieve the established Performance Objectives.

• Lead, monitor the implementation, and evaluate the effectiveness of the National Team Programs and make appropriate adjustments as required.

• Review SSC’s technical performance against short and intermediate term plans, provide analysis & recommendations, and make appropriate adjustments as required.

• Lead, manage and coordinate all technical staff ensuring that their responsibilities, authorities, and accountabilities are clearly defined, understood, carried out, and evaluated.

• The NTPD will become a voting member of the SSC High Performance Committee – Long Track.


The ideal candidate must have knowledge of the amateur sporting system of Canada and of the programs of SSC’s key sports partners. The ideal candidate will have demonstrable success as an executive manager with excellent management, administrative, and financial skills. Strong consultative, facilitation and decision-making skills are required. This individual will possess vision, energy, enthusiasm and the desire to be both a team builder and team player. Bilingualism is an asset.

Salary for this position will commensurate with experience.
