Kalyna Roberge Wins Female Athlete of the Year at Canadian Sport Awards

The True Sport Foundation officially announced the winners for the 35th Canadian Sport Awards (CSA) at a gala awards ceremony co-hosted by Sport Manitoba at Winnipeg’s Garrick Theatre on March 19. The awards event celebrated excellence in sport and honoured the athletes and leaders who competed and inspired hope throughout the 2007 calendar year.

Kalyna Roberge was awarded with the Female Athlete of the Year Award, recognizing her outstanding athletic performance in 2007. During the 2007 season Kalyna was ranked 1st overall for Canadian speed skaters and enjoyed tremendous success on both the national and international level.

Philippe Riopel was also nominated for an award in the Junior Athlete of the Year category and was selected as a finalist. Ultimately the award was presented to Erica Morningstar for her achievements in swimming.

Another nominee from Speed Skating was Derrick Campbell, national coach for the men’s short track team, who was a finalist in the Coach of the Year category.
