SSC’s Intact Insurance World Cup Tracker donated $50,000 to grassroots speed skating last year

FREDERICTON
– Valerie Maltais, Canada’s top women’s short track speed skater following the recent fall World Cups selections in Calgary, will join Intact Insurance, Speed Skate New Brunswick and the Fredericton Amateur Speed Skating Club to celebrate Speed Skating Canada‘s (SSC) Intact Insurance World Cup Tracker program.

As part of the Intact Insurance World Cup Tracker 2011-12 program, the Fredericton Amateur Speed Skating Club received a $1,000 cheque and the opportunity to have a national team athlete visit their club.

On Sunday, Sept. 30, Maltais will take part in the opening weekend ceremonies of the new Grant - Harvey Centre in Fredericton. She will be joined by Debbie Cyr, Intact Insurance regional branch manager, Linda Murray, sales and business development consultant, Heather Wilson, president of Wilson Insurance, Ray Harris, president of Speed Skating New Brunswick, and Trevor Corey of the Fredericton Amateur Speed Skating Club.

Maltais, who won silver and bronze World Cup medals during the 2011-12 season, will arrive at the Grant/Harvey Centre and be introduced before the Celebrity Hockey Game at 2 p.m. (news release details). The 22-year-old will also assist The Fredericton speed skating club’s coach Derrick MacLeod in dry-land and on-ice training activities with his skaters later in the afternoon.

With 50 World Cup medals won during the 2011-12 season by the long and short track teams, the Intact Insurance World Cup Tracker program donated $50,000 in cash and prizes to speed skating clubs across Canada (full list of clubs and podium results for 2011-12 season).
