Montreal to host Canadian Senior Short Track Selections #2

Montréal, March 7, 2017 – The Maurice-Richard Arena in Montreal will host this weekend, March 9-12, the best 67 senior short track speed skaters in Canada, except the Canadian National Team Members competing at the ISU World Short Track Championships also to be held this weekend in Rotterdam, in the Netherlands, for the Canadian Senior Short Track Selections #2.

The 35 male and 32 female skaters will look to improve their national ranking with the objective of qualifying for the national team next season.

Olympic medalist François Hamelin of Sainte-Julie, QC, will be among the headliners, also including many national team members of Canada's 2016-2017 World Cup team with Jamie Macdonald of Fort St. James, B.C, and William Preudhomme of Toronto, ON.

Admission is free.

Here is the approximate competition schedule (local time):

Thursday, March 9 (Prelims/Heats: 1500m/500m)
1:30 pm to 5 pm

Friday, March 10 (repechage and final rounds: 1500m)
1:10 pm to 5:20 pm

Saturday, March 11 (repechage and final rounds: 500m)
1:10 pm to 5:30 pm

Sunday, March 12 (repechage and final rounds: 1000m, 3000m and relays)
9:40 am to 3:30 pm
