National team alumnus heading to the 2012 Olympics

Former national short track team member Carol Anne Chenard will be heading off to London for the 2012 Olympics as a one of three Canadian referees for the soccer tournament.

Chenard will fulfill her dream of taking part in the Olympic Games, the only major competition that was missing from her impressive list of achievements.

A FIFA Referee since 2006, the Ottawa-native raised quickly through the international ranks becoming one of the best woman referees in the world. She refereed the FIFA Under-20 Women’s World Cup final (Germany vs. Nigeria) in 2010 and a FIFA Women’s World Cup semi-final (Japan vs. Sweden) in 2011.

Chenard first represented Canada in speed skating at the 1994 World Junior Championships and competed in World Cups until the 2001-02 season.
