NEWS: Race information on Canada’s team at the World Cup in China

OTTAWA – Speed Skating Canada’s short track team is in Shanghai, China, for the fourth Korean Air ISU World Cup of the season from Friday, Dec. 9 to Sunday, Dec. 11.

Qualification rounds are on Friday (local time) for both 500 metres races, the 1,000 metres, the 1,500 metres and relays. Saturday’s races will see the 1,500-metre race, the first of two 500-metre competitions and the men’s and women’s relay semi-finals. On Sunday, there will be the 1,000-metre and second 500-metre races, as well as the relay finals.

Canada’s skaters will take part in the following races:
- Vanessa Bélanger-Marceau of Loretteville, Que.: 1,000 metres, 1,500 metres
- Sabrina Bourgela of Montreal: 500 metres (2), 1,500 metres
- Kasandra Bradette of St. Félicien, Que.: 500 metres (1), 500 metres (2)
- Andréa Do-Duc of Montreal: 1,000 metres, 1,500 metres
- Caroline Truchon of Chicoutimi, Que.: 500 metres (1), 500 metres (2)
- Gabrielle Waddell of Red Deer, Alta.: 500 metres (1), 1,000 metres
- Rémi Beaulieu of Alma, Que.: 500 metres (2), 1,500 metres
- Charle Cournoyer of Longueuil, Que.: 500 metres (2), 1,500 metres
- Michael Gilday of Yellowknife: 500 metres (1), 1,000 metres (1)
- Olivier Jean of Lachenaie, Que.: 500 metres (1), 1,000 metres (1)
- Charles Hamelin of Sainte-Julie, Que.: 500 metres (2), 1,500 metres
- Alexandre St. Jean of Quebec City: 500 metres (1), 1,000 metres (1)

Day 1 of the World Cup in China starts Friday, Dec. 9 at 9:25 a.m. local (13 hours ahead of Eastern time), which is Thursday at 8:25 p.m. ET. Day 2 begins with the repechage at 8:05 p.m. ET on Friday and the quarter- and semi-finals starting at midnight ET on Friday. Day 3 begins again with the repechage at 7:40 p.m. ET on Saturday, followed by the quarter- and semi-finals starting at midnight ET on Saturday.
