Saguenay to host the ISU #2 World Cup Short Track Speed Skating

May 3, 2011 Speed Skating Canada is proud to announce the City of Saguenay as the 2011 host of the ISU #2 World Cup Short Track Speed Skating. This international event will take place Oct. 28-30, at the Georges-Vézina Centre in Saguenay, Que.. Speed Skating Canada proudly supports the City of Saguenay in the organization of this competition. Mr. John-Paul Cody-Cox, Chief Executive Office of Speed Skating Canada, mentions, ‘We are very pleased to organize this event in Québec, home to many of our national team skaters and where short track is always growing. We have no doubt that Saguenay will host a successful event and we are already looking forward the arrival of the international speed skating community in Canada.’ This international event will host more than 150 skaters, men and women, coming from as many as 25 countries. It is the fourth time that Saguenay will host an international short track speed skating event. The President of the Events Committee in Saguenay (CODES), Mr. Roger Fradette, states, ‘After an absence of more than five years, we are very proud to host the world’s elite in short track speed skating in Saguenay. We are very enthusiastic and motivated at the thought of making this an event that will stay engraved in the minds of skaters and spectators for years to come.’ The ISU World Cup in Saguenay will be the second stop of the 2011 tour. This event gives points towards world ranking for participating skaters. This competition is also a unique opportunity for Canadian athletes to perform in front of the Saguenay Lac-St-Jean crowd.
