Speed Skating Canada adds coach to assist with skater development program at the Olympic Oval

Speed Skating Canada (SSC) and the Calgary Olympic Oval are pleased to announce that Crispin Parkinson will join the SSC coaching staff at the Olympic Oval.

Parkinson, from Winnipeg, Manitoba, will be working within the SSC / Oval speed skating programs to develop and implement training and competition programs that enhance performance levels of skaters training at the Olympic Oval.

“We’re very pleased with the addition of Crispin to our staff”, said Jean R. Dupré, Director General of Speed Skating Canada.

“With the recent support of the “Own the Podium” program for winter Olympic sports, this provides us with an opportunity to invest additional resources in coaching programs for the development of high performance athletes as we head to 2010 and beyond.”

Parkinson was head coach of the River Heights Speed Skating Club in Manitoba from 1993 to 2000 before becoming the provincial coach with Manitoba Speed Skating Association. In 2004, he added the position of Regional Training Center coach to his responsibilities.

“The Oval has long been a successful venue for the development of high performance athletes and I am very excited to be given this opportunity,” stated Parkinson.

“I look forward to working with the athletes and coaching staff at the Olympic Oval.”

His coaching experiences also include participation at the 1999 and 2003 Canada Winter Games and the 2005 World Junior Championships.

Speed Skating Canada and the Olympic Oval are committed partners in ensuring that Canadian skaters training at the Oval receive the best support available as they develop their skills.

Speed Skating Canada is the national governing body responsible for the advancement and growth of speed skating in Canada.
