Speed Skating Canada Looking for Short Track Coach

Speed Skating Canada is looking for a coach at the Short Track National Training Centre (STNTC) in Montreal.

Job description :

Under the leadership of the program director, the Short Track Development Team Coach is a full time position based in Montreal. The selected candidate will be responsible for a group of athletes identified by Speed Skating Canada, making the second group of the STNTC, the Development team. The coach will be responsible to put together training plans for the group and will ensure to personify the programs in order to address athlete’s specific needs. In collaboration with the coaching team, the successful candidate will align all components of the annual training plan in order to coordinate all activities as well as the established performance objectives.

The coach will be responsible to conduct on and off ice training sessions. He will also need to integrate the performance enhancement team (strenght trainer, nutritionist, sport therapist and others) in order to have a structured approach involving all aspects linked to performance both in training and competition. He will help the National Team coaches and will work closely with them when it comes to the pathway of athletes on their respective teams.

The candidate will show an interest to help with the implementation of the Long Term Athlete and Participant Development Model as well as an interest to help with developing a talent identification model.

The ideal candidate must :

  • Demonstrate an advanced level of technical skill in short track skating, allowing him to analyze each skater’s optimal biomechanical characteristics
  • Master the practice of preparing and adjusting blades and skates
  • Have significant experience in short track racing strategies and tactics
  • Show a strong interest in teamwork and in working with multidisciplinary stakeholders
  • Demonstrate strong leadership among athletes
  • Have Level 3 certification or equivalent from the National Coaching Certification Program

The ideal candidate will have a vision, energy and enthusiasm and will have a strong desire to build a team wihle working within it. Bilinguism is an asset.

Salary will be based on experience.
