SSC Confirms Short Track Coaching Team for 2010-11

Speed Skating Canada is happy to confirm that its 2010-11 short track coaching team is now complete. Jeffrey Scholten, a former National Team member who has been the equipment technician over the past two seasons, will team up with National Team Coach Sébastien Cros to oversee the women’s national and development teams training programs.

On the men side, Frédéric Blackburn, also a former National Team member who was recently the head coach with the Montréal St-Michel Club, has been appointed assistant coach of the men’s team. He will work closely with National Team Coach Derrick Campbell in helping our athletes reach their top level performances. Blackburn comes in remplacement of Stephen Gough, who announced his departure at the end of the 2009-10 season in order to pursue a career in law.

Jonathon Cavar will remain the National and Development Team coach for short track speed skaters based at the Calgary Training Centre.

SSC wishes to congratulate Frédéric Blackburn and Jeffrey Scholten on their nominations as we embark on this new Olympic cycle leading up to Sochi 2014.
