SSC’s Intact Insurance Day on Skates coming to Montreal and Toronto

National and Development team athletes will be in Montreal - Olympic champions LeMay Doan and Groves will be in Toronto

OTTAWA – SSC's Intact Insurance Day on Skates, presented by Intact Insurance in cooperation with local speed skating clubs, will take to the ice in Montreal on Saturday, Feb. 4 and Sunday, Feb. 5, and in Toronto on Saturday, Feb. 11 and Sunday, .Feb. 12, 2012.

The Intact Insurance Day on Skates is an opportunity for Canadians to get involved and learn more about Canada’s oldest nationally organized sport – speed skating. In its inaugural year, Intact Insurance Day on Skates will take place in Ontario and Quebec, and will expand across Canada in the coming years.

To celebrate the association’s 125th anniversary, SSC’s Intact Insurance Day on Skates in Montreal and Toronto offers two days of free events from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. for families and children. Activities in both cities will include speed skating clinics and open skating, with rental skates provided free of charge, demonstrations by local club athletes and opportunities to meet national team athletes and Olympians.

Montreal’s Intact Insurance Day on Skates will take place on the last weekend of the city’s annual Fête des neiges winter festival, Feb. 4 and 5, at the Intact skating rink at Jean Drapeau Park. Canadian short track team members Guillaume Blais-Dufour, Sabrina Bourgela, Andréa-Anh Do-Duc, Gabriel Chiasson-Poirier and Pier-Olivier Gagnon will be present to give clinics, take pictures and sign autographs.

Former Olympic champions Catriona LeMay Doan and Kristina Groves will be on hand for Toronto’s Intact Insurance Day on Skates, taking place Feb. 11 and 12 at the Natrel skating rink at Harbourfront Centre. They will participate in the opening ceremony and autograph signing sessions. The Olympic torch and medals won by LeMay Doan and Groves will be displayed.
