St. Gelais & Charles Hamelin take both races on second day of short track Fall World Cup Selections

MONTREAL – The second day of short track speed skating’s Fall World Cup Selections in Montreal featured the 1,000-metre and 1,500-metre races and wins in both by Marianne St. Gelais (St-Félicien, Que.) and Charles Hamelin (Lévis, Que.). St. Gelais and Hamelin also claimed the 1,500-metre overall title with the most points in the two races. In the women’s 1,000-metre, St. Gelais beat out Valérie Maltais (La Baie, Que.) and Marie-Eve Drolet (Chicoutimi, Que.). In today’s 1,500-metre race, St-Gelais again edged out Maltais and Drolet. In the men’s 1,000-metre Hamelin out-skated Michael Gilday (Yellowknife, N.W.T.) and Guillaume Bastille (Rivière-du-Loup, Que.), and in the 1,500 Hamelin was first in front of Bastille and Rémi Beaulieu (Alma, Que.). The total points standings after two 1,500-metre races were St. Gelais taking gold, with Maltais and Drolet tied for silver. In the men’s, Hamelin took gold, Bastille had silver and Gilday bronze.
