Marianne St. Gelais progressing towards participating in the World Cup in Montreal

MONTREAL
– In consultation with the Canadian national team's medical and coaching staff, Marianne St. Gelais will continue to progress through concussion injury protocol procedures to ultimately being cleared to compete in the second Samsung ISU World Cup of the season in Montreal from Friday, Oct. 26 to Sunday, Oct. 29.

Following outlined protocol procedures for an injury involving concussion-like symptoms, the 22-year-old St. Gelais has passed through the first three steps. She will need to successfully complete the fourth step on Thursday and fifth on Friday before final confirmation of her competing in this World Cup.

St. Gelais suffered a concussion resulting from a fall during the 500-metre semifinals at World Cup #1 in Calgary on Sunday.

The qualification rounds for the two 500-metre races, 1,000 metres, 1,500 metres and relays are on Friday starting at 8:20 a.m. The first 500-metres and 1,500-metre individual races and semifinal relays will take place on Saturday, followed by the second 500, 1,000 metres and relay finals on Sunday.
