Susan Auch named Speed Skating Canada’s Interim Chief Executive Officer

Ottawa, February 2, 2017 – Speed Skating Canada’s Board of Directors announced the nomination of Susan Auch as Interim Chief Executive Officer, effective today.

Susan Auch will leave her role as President of the national organization to take on her new capacity until Speed Skating Canada's Annual General Meeting to be held in June of 2018. Her mandate will therefore include the next Olympic Winter Games, which will take place in February of 2018. Susan Auch has been a real estate agent and broker for close to 15 years and she will leave her clients in the capable hands of her associates to focus on this new challenge.

Speed Skating Canada’s Vice President, Blair R. Carbert from Calgary, AB, will now be the President until the next elections, which will be held at the Annual General Meeting in Toronto in June of 2017.

Susan Auch, a three-time Olympic medalist in speed skating, was elected as President last June. She has been a member of the Board of Directors since 2008. She will fill the position held by Ian Moss, who stepped down in early 2017 by mutual agreement.

“A lot of exciting challenges lie ahead, including those associated with the 2017-2018 season, which will feature the Olympic Games in South Korea,” said Susan Auch. “I look forward to start working with our team to be ready to capitalize on the opportunity that Olympic exposure will bring to our organization, not only this upcoming year but also as we head towards the post-Pyeongchang era.”

Blair R. Carbert practices law in Calgary and is the father of a retired speed skater.

“The Board of Directors is pleased that Susan’s passion for speed skating has driven her to take on this challenge” said the new President, Blair R. Carbert. “Susan cares about every speed skater in Canada, whether it is the child learning to skate, the teenage athlete starting to train at an advanced level, or the Olympic athlete. You will see this in everything Susan does as CEO.”
