Three speed skaters receive bursaries at the annual Quebec university athletic gala for athletic excellence

The Quebec foundation for athletic excellence presented 57 bursaries valued at $106,000, to student-athletes at the 18th Annual Quebec university athletic gala for athletic excellence held at the Molson brewery on Monday, November 10th.

Among the recipients were short track speed skaters: Jean-François Monette (UQUAM), Jeffrey Scholten (Concordia) and Anne Maltais (Laval). The three skaters were awarded bursaries in the category: “Athletic Excellence – Sport Non-University Network”.

The category recognizes student-athletes who do not participate in the Quebec University Network but had impressive results on the international scene in 2002-2003.

Twenty-seven (27) entry scholarships valued at $58,500 were also presented to the best graduating CEGEPs student-athletes who want to pursue an athletic and academic career in a Quebec University. Eight (8) of the scholarships are worth $6,000 over 3 years, i.e. $3,000 the first year and $1,500 the second and third year respectively.

Thirty (30) excellence bursaries of $1,500 each valued at $47,500 were presented to the finalists of eight (8) leading categories which are: six (6) for academic excellence and twenty-four (24) for athletic excellence.
