Vote for Nesbitt – CBC’s 2011 people’s choice Athlete of the Year

Since Jan. 1, 2011, Christine Nesbitt has won seven individual gold medals, a silver and two bronze at World Cups – five of the gold medals and the silver where in the past three weeks alone. She won gold in the 1,000-metre race at the 2011 World Single Distance Championship and was the 2011 World Sprint champion. Christine was also second at the 2011 World All-Round Championship.

It is certainly not surprising that Christine has been selected by CBC Sports as one of Canada’s top 12 athletes of 2011. CBC TV, Speed Skating Canada’s official broadcaster, has a poll for fans to place their vote for this year’s people’s choice award.

Nesbitt at 1.71 per cent of the vote

Our speed skaters proudly wear the maple leaf in international competition, but there are not too many who have stood on the podium in 2011 waving Canada’s flag as often as Christine.

We need to rally behind Christine this time.
