Gilmore Junio wins 500m, Vincent De Haître and Denny Morrison shine in 1000m

Calgary, October 21, 2017 – In the highly competitive men's 500m event, Gilmore Junio from Calgary, AB won Saturday's race over Laurent Dubreuil from Lévis, QC, by only two hundredths of a second at the Long Track Fall World Cup Selections held at Calgary's Olympic Oval.

Junio won it with a time of 34.38 seconds as compared to 34.40 for Dubreuil. They both came up with faster times on Saturday than they did in Friday's first 500m of the competition, when they respectively finished third and fourth.

Ted-Jan Bloemen eleven seconds away from beating his world record in the 10,000m event

Calgary, October 20, 2017 – Ted-Jan Bloemen from Calgary, AB, came less than eleven seconds away from beating his own world record in the men's 10,000m, Friday, at the Long Track Fall World Cup Selections held at Calgary's Olympic Oval, as he won the race in 12:46.83.
 
Bloemen therefore came up with his second fastest time ever after setting a world record of 12:36.30 on November 21, 2015 in Salt Lake City, U.S.A.
 

Weidemann and Bloemen top the podium in 3000m and 5000m at Fall World Cup Long Track Selections

Calgary, October 19, 2017 – Isabelle Weideman of Ottawa and Ted-Jan Bloemen of Calgary took the top spots respectively in the women's 3000m and men's 5000m, Thursday, on the first day of competition at the Fall World Cup Long Track Selections to be held until Sunday at Calgary's Olympic Oval.

Isabelle Weidemann won with a time of 4:03.87 followed by Ivanie Blondin of Ottawa, ON, in 4:06.27 and Brianne Tutt of Airdrie, AB, in a new personal best time of 4:08.42, which she lowered from her previous best of 4:09.62.

Long Track Olympic season starts this weekend with the Fall World Cups Selections

Calgary, October 16, 2017 – The road to PyeongChang will start this week for Canadian long track speed skaters as they will take part in the Fall World Cups Selections, October 19-22, at Calgary’s Olympic Oval.
 
This competition will take place in order to select the Canadian representatives who will compete at the first four ISU World Cup Long Track stages of the 2017-2018 season: in Heerenveen, the Netherlands (November 10-12), Stavanger, Norway (November 17-19), Calgary (December 1-3), and Salt Lake City, U.S.A., December (8-10).
 

Canada remains undefeated in men's relay this season on the ISU World Cup Short Track circuit

Dordrecht, Netherlands, October 8, 2017 – The Canadian men's relay team won its second consecutive gold medal on the World Cup circuit while Samuel Girard earned his second individual medal of the weekend – silver in the men's 1000m – and the women's relay came up with bronze, Sunday, on the last day of the ISU World Cup held in Dordrecht, Netherlands.
 
With these three medals, which come on the heels of the five individual medals won on Saturday, Canada's provisional Olympic team therefore left Dordrecht with a tally of eight medals.
