About the North American Championships
The North American Championships are a single distance event held every year alternating between Canada and the United States. Only Canadian and American skaters are permitted to compete in this competition. Senior and junior A, B and C skaters are all eligible to complete as long as they meet the time competition standards. This competition is a selection event and ranking points are granted to the Canadians.
The North American Championships are typically held over three days. The women races are 500 metres, 1,000 metres, 1,500 metres and 3,000 metres, while the men distances are 500 metres, 1,000 metres, 1,500 metres, 3,000 metres (junior only) and 5,000 metres.
