Two-time Olympian Anastasia Bucsis retires from long track speed skating

Calgary, April 10, 2017 – Two-time Olympian from Vancouver 2010 and Sochi 2014, Anastasia Bucsis from Calgary, AB, has decided to retire from long track speed skating.

$45,000 available to Canadian speed skating clubs through the 2017 Intact Insurance Podium Tracker Program

Ottawa, March 27, 2017 – A total of $45,000, including one grand prize of $10,000 and seven $5,000 grants, are available to Canadian speed skating clubs as part of the 2017 Intact Insurance Podium Tracker Program.

Clubs have until Friday, March 31, to submit their application for $5,000 or $10,000 to help them tackle challenges such as the purchase of equipment, coaching services, recruitment or ice time.

Ottawa welcomes 122 young skaters from Eastern Canada for the 2017 Canada East Short Track Championships

Ottawa, March 23, 2017 – The Elizabeth Manley International Skating Centre at the Bob MacQuarrie Recreation Complex (1490 Youville Drive) in Ottawa, ON, will play host to 122 young skaters, March 25-26, during the 2017 Canada East Short Track Championships, presented by Ontario 150.

Graeme Fish and Béatrice Lamarche conclude their season with new Canadian Junior records

Calgary, March 21, 2017 – Graeme Fish from Moose Jaw, SK, and Béatrice Lamarche from Quebec City, QC, ended their 2016-2017 season by clocking new Canadian Junior records at the last long track national competition of the season, Canada Cup #4/Olympic Oval Finale, held March 16-19, in Calgary.

Béatrice Lamarche lowered two new national marks after she broke the 1000m and 1500m Canadian Junior records.

Saskatoon welcomes 117 young skaters from Western Canada for the 2017 Canada West Short Track Championships

Canadian Long Track Speed Skaters to end season at Canada Cup #4/Olympic Oval Finale in Calgary

Calgary, March 15, 2017 – Around 30 members of Speed Skating Canada’s National Teams will end their season by taking part in the last competition: the Canada Cup #4/Olympic Oval Finale, March 16-19, in Calgary.

Among them, the silver medalist in the 1000m and bronze medalist in the Mass Start at the World Single Distance Championships held in February in Gangneung, in South Korea, respectively Vincent De Haître from Cumberland, ON, and Olivier Jean from Lachenaie, QC, will be in action.

113 Short Track speed skaters in Trois-Rivières for the 2017 Canadian Junior Short Track Selections #2

Trois-Rivières, March 15, 2017 – The Complexe Sportif Alphonse Desjardins in Trois-Rivières, QC, will host Speed Skating Canada’s 2017 National Junior Short Track Selections #2, March 16-19.

Overall, 113 junior speed skaters will aim to improve their national ranking in this competition, which is being hosted by the Élans de Trois-Rivières Speed Skating Club.

Canadian men win silver in team sprint event to clinch overall title at ISU World Cup Long Track Speed Skating Final

Stavanger, Norway, March 12, 2017 – The Canadian men skated to a silver medal in the team sprint held Sunday, ensuring them the overall 2016-2017 World Cup title in that event, while Ivanie Blondin raced to eighth place in the women's mass start to finish third in overall World Cup ranking for the season on the last day of the ISU World Cup Long Track Speed Skating Final.

Two silver medals for Marianne St-Gelais and one for Samuel Girard at first day of the ISU World Short Track Speed Skating Championships

Rotterdam, Netherlands, March 11, 2017 – Marianne St-Gelais won silver medals in the 500m and 1500m at the ISU World Short Track Speed Skating Championships, Saturday, and is tied for first overall following the first two events, while Samuel Girard stands third after a silver medal in the 1500m and a fourth position in the 500m.

Following day one, St-Gelais, last year’s runner-up overall, earned 42 points and is tied with Elise Christie of Great Britain. Kexin Fan of China is third at 34 while Marie-Ève Drolet of Saguenay, Que., stands eighth with five points.
