About the World Short Track Championships

The world senior short track championships are a senior international short track speed skating competition held once a year to determine the world champion in individual distances, relays and overall classification. The competition lasts three days.

Men and women perform individual races in the 500 metres, 1,000 metres, 1,500 metres and 3,000 metres, and a four-person relay, in the 3,000 metres for women and 5,000 metres for men. Points are given for placing in the finals in the individual distances, and only the top eight skaters who accumulate points in previous finals are eligible for the 3,000-metre final.

The athlete with the highest points after the points for all individual distances are added up is declared the men's or women’s overall world short track champion.
