Junio leads Canadian men with 10th-place
 showing in 500m at Olympic Games

Gilmore Junio of Calgary 10th-place in Sochi FEB 10, 2014

Sochi, Russia, Feb. 10, 2014 – Gilmore Junio of Calgary was the top Canadian with a 10th-place finish in the men’s 500m at the 2014 Winter Olympic Games on Monday.

Junio’s two-race time of 70.25 seconds led the four Canadian men at Adler Arena. He had skates of 35.15 and 35.10. Junio will also compete in the 1000m in Sochi.

Jamie Gregg of Edmonton placed 11th in 70.27. William Dutton of Humboldt., Sask., was 14th in 70.448 and Muncef Ouardi of Quebec 25th in 70.997.

Next on the schedule in long track for Canada is the women’s 500m on Tuesday. Skating for Canada: Anastasia Bucsis, Calgary; Marsha Hudey, White City, Sask.; Christine Nesbitt, London, Ont.; Danielle Wotherspoon-Gregg, Red Deer, Alta. That event starts at 7:45 a.m. Eastern.

Junio, Dutton, Ouardi and Vincent De Haître of Cumberland., Ont., will skate the men’s 1000m on Wednesday.
