Liam McFarlane & Valérie Lambert on Podium at FISU Games

Liam McFarlane (Medicine Hat, AB) and Valérie Lambert (Sherbrooke, QC) each won a silver medal for Canada on Saturday at the FISU Games in Erzurum, Turkey. Both athletes managed to finish second in the 500m race.

In men’s racing, French skater Thibault Fauconnet won the gold in 41.544, followed closely by McFarlane in 41.874. Gao Ming of China won the bronze (41.944). Vincent Cournoyer (Boucherville, QC) was eliminated in semi-finals for 8th place, while Allyn Gagnon (Montreal, QC) and Pier-Olivier Gagnon (Québec, QC) saw their day end in quarter finals, good for 9th and 10th position respectively.

Valérie Lambert finished second in her race with a time of 45.416. Kong Xue of China won the gold medal in 45.054 and bronze went to Lee Eun Byul of Korea. Gabrielle Waddell (Red Deer, AB) finishes 6th after being eliminated in semi-final, Sabrina Bourgela (Montreal, QC) was 13th and Andréa Do-Duc (Montreal, QC) 15th.

In yesterday’s races, McFarlane was the top Canadian with a fifth place finish in the 1500m.
