Marsha Hudey & Laurent Dubreuil Crack Top-10 at World Cup in Minsk

Hudey finishes 8th in 500m and Dubreuil 9th in 1000m

MINSK, BELARUS – Canadian long track skaters Marsha Hudey and Laurent Dubreuil earned top-10 results on the second day of competition at the ISU World Cup Speed Skating in Minsk, Belarus.

Hudey (White City, Sask.) posted a time of 38.558 to finish eighth in the 500m. The two-time Olympian looks to be off to a strong start this season after winning a silver medal in the sprint distance at this fall’s Canadian Long Track Championships. Today’s result surpasses her 2018-2019 season’s best tenth place finish at the World Cup in Hamar.

And after helping Canada earn a bronze medal in yesterday’s team sprint event, Dubreuil (Lévis, Que.) finished ninth in the 1000m, completing the race in 1:10.282. The sprint specialist, who was ranked 15th overall in the distance on the World Cup circuit last season, looks poised to improve upon that result. He earned only one top-10 finish in the 1000m last season, a seventh-place result in Obihiro.

Additional Results to Note

  • After winning bronze in yesterday’s 3000m, Ivanie Blondin (Ottawa, Ont.) finished just outside the top-10 with a 12th place result in the 1500m.
  • Graeme Fish (Moose Jaw, Sask.) and Jordan Belchos (Toronto, Ont.) both competed in the semifinals of the mass start, however neither skater qualified for the finals.

The action in Belarus concludes Sunday with the men’s 500m and 1500m, along with the ladies’ 1000m and mass start. The races will be live streamed on CBC Sports beginning at 7:00AM ET.
