Notice of Annual General Meeting and Branch Responsibilities

In accordance with the bylaws of Speed Skating Canada, we have been directed by the president of the association, Marie-Claire Rouleau, to inform you that the 125th Annual General Meeting of Speed Skating Canada will be held at the Delta Centre-Ville Hotel, in Montreal, from Wednesday, June 27 to Saturday, June 30, 2012. During this year’s AGM events we will be conducting a comprehensive Strategic Plan review session and hear from the Sport Injury and Medical Emergency Committee (SIMEC). There will also be an introduction to SSC’s integrated online resource service and membership database; “SSC 2.0”. We are counting on the participation of all.

Again this year, SSC will cover the cost of the branch president return flight, arriving on the afternoon of Wednesday, June 27, your accommodation on a shared basis, and meals at the current per diem rate, if not already provided during the AGM.

For this year’s Board of Directors election, two directors at large and the president will be elected according to the process outlined in the SSC bylaw article 32. There will be one member position up for election for a three-year period on each of the High Performance Committees. Please make sure to fill out your nomination forms and submit them to the national office no later than Monday, May 21. Further to these elections, the selection of representatives from the following regions: far west (B.C., Yukon), central (Ontario, Nunavut) and Atlantic (P.E.I., N.B., N.S., N.L.), are up for a two-year renewal on the Officials Development Committee, Competitions Development Committee, Coaching Development Committee, and Club and Membership Development Committee.

Each branch and committee chair is asked to submit an AGM Report electronically to the national office at by Monday, May 21.

Translation costs are each branch’s responsibility. SSC uses the translation services of We Do Translation. If you wish to use their services, please contact Chantal Hopps at Please note that payment for translation services is required upfront.

As SSC is committed to being a sustainable organization, it was decided that no hard copies of the AGM documents would be provided this year. All documents will be made available electronically. Hard copies may be available upon request at the cost of $25.

Please ensure that you reserve your delegates’ accommodations prior to Friday, May 25 by using the SSC’s Delta reservation page.

On behalf of the national office staff I would like to wish everyone a very productive, educational and enjoyable annual general meeting and look forward to seeing you there.
