SSC Short Track Coach Inducted to NB Sports Hall of Fame

Speed Skating Canada congratulates short track speed skating coach Stephen Gough (Fredericton, NB), who was inducted to the New Brunswick Sports Hall of Fame last Saturday in his home province.

Gough was recognized for a successful short track career. He became the first Fredericton short track skater to win a national gold medal in 1985. He was named to Canada’s espoir team in 1991, and was a member of the National Team from 1992 to 1998. The highlight of his career was a participatin at the 1994 Olympic Winter Games in Lillehammer, where he finished fourth with the male relay team.

Following his skating career, Stephen Gough coached the US National Team in 2002-03, before coming back to Canada in 2006 to coach the male development team. While fulfilling his national coach duties, he completed a law degree at McGill University last year.

Speed Skating Canada is proud to have coaches such as Stephen at the head of their National and Development Teams, and is glad to see them recognized in such a way. Congratulations Stephen!
