Welcome to Janice Dawson - Manager of domestic programs

Ian Moss, SSC chief executive officer, is pleased to announce the hiring of Janice Dawson as the new manager of domestic programs.

“Janice brings over twenty years of sport administration expertise to our organisation and, as importantly, much of that experience is within Speed Skating itself,” said Moss. Based in Calgary, Janice will provide leadership firstly in the areas of coach education and development, safety and research, the multi sport “Learn To Skate” initiative in conjunction with Hockey Canada and Ringette Canada, preparations for the ISU Long Track World Cup in Calgary (November) and will liaise with SSC’s three regional mentors to further membership and technical development throughout the country. Over time, Janice will take a stronger leadership role in other areas of SSC’s technical programming.

“I am thrilled to be working with Speed Skating Canada. Sport and specifically, speed skating, has been my passion. I look forward to reconnecting with people I’ve known for years in the speed skating community and meeting the numerous, dedicated volunteers and staff who drive speed skating in Canada,” said Dawson.

Most recently, Janice was the high performance head coach for the National women’s goalball team (Canadian Blind Sports Association), she has held the volunteer post of vice chair, administration for the World Cup/Championship Organising Committee Calgary for over fifteen years, and has also been the technical director for both the Alberta Amateur Speed Skating Association and the Ontario Speed Skating Association. Janice is an NCCP Level 3 Certified Coach and has been the provincial coach for the Ontario Speed Skating Association.

Janice began her full time work with Speed Skating Canada on July 3. Please take the time to welcome Janice into her new role. She can be contacted at the following email address and phone number:
