Sébastien Cros

BIOGRAPHY

Sébastien Cros has held multiple roles with Canada’s short track program since 2007, most recently taking over leadership of both the men’s and women’s national teams.

A native of France, Cros was a skater for his country’s national team from 1992 to 1998, where he earned the title of vice national champion and medalled at the European Championships, while also participating at five World Championships. He made the move to full-time coaching in 2000 and has travelled the world training Olympic calibre skaters ever since.

Cros coached the national short track team in France from 2002 to 2007, leading the women’s relay to a fifth-place finish at Turin 2006. He took over the Canadian women’s national team in 2007, guiding both Marianne St-Gelais and the relay squad to silver medals at Vancouver 2010. He left Canada in 2012 for coaching stints with national teams in Russia and Poland, before returning in 2017 as a NextGen coach. He was responsible for the women’s development and national teams, before taking control of both the men’s and women’s teams in 2021.

Cros was named Coach of the Year by Speed Skating Canada in 2009 and has been recognized numerous times with Coaching Excellence Awards from the Coaching Association of Canada.
